Gina Chick, Daniel Browning, and Jeanine Leane are just some of the 70 artists that have been announced as part of the 2025 Northern Territory Writers Festival, with the Alice Springs’ Olive Pink Botanic Garden to play host to the program.
Running from May 29 to June 1, the festival will bring the writing world to the heart of Australia for four days. With a variety of workshops, performances, talks and experiences on offer, festival artistic director, Louise Omer, said that the festival is shaping up to be one to remember.
“We’ve invited some fantastic authors from around Australia to be in conversation with writers and storytellers from this place,” Omer said.
“This creates a festival that speaks into issues both local and further afield, and provokes, challenges, and enlightens.”
The theme of the 2025 Festival is angkwerre-iweme, meaning healing in the winds of change in Arrernte. Omer said the theme will shape the mood for the festival, with writers to talk about how healing and justice are connected.
“This theme was chosen by Arrernte Elders and First Peoples Consultants in a series of
consultative workshops, facilitated by Running Water Community Press,” Omer said.
“This integral process provides a wonderful foundation for different types of people to come together over the festival weekend, and walk in step together.
“Many writers speak to the theme, contending with adversity and injustice and looking for a brighter direction for the future.”
