Alice Springs Hospital under pressure as patient numbers rise

Alice Springs Hospital is currently experiencing capacity challenges due to an increase in patient presentations and bed flow pressures linked to ongoing weather events across the region.

To manage the situation, a Code Yellow has been activated.

A range of measures are being implemented to ease pressure on the hospital and improve patient flow and discharge processes. These measures will continue to be reviewed and adjusted as the situation develops.

The hospital remains operational and will continue to provide services during this time, including assistance with emergency response efforts across the region.

People experiencing a medical emergency are urged to call Triple Zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

For non-emergency but urgent medical issues, the Mparntwe Urgent Care Clinic is available, and residents are also encouraged to visit their local GP for non-urgent health care.

Those unsure how to manage an illness or injury can visit Healthdirect Australia online at healthdirect.gov.au or call 1800 022 222 for free health advice.

Hospital officials have also asked the community to be patient and respectful with staff during the period of high demand.

Staff were thanked for their ongoing work to ensure Territorians continue to receive the best possible patient-centred care.
